These items are Pre:loved and ready to be Re:loved.
Pair of vintage Alexander Ceramics pomander hens.
One a black and white, fine white earthenware pomander of a Silver Spangled Hamburg hen (a breed originally from Holland - or so I'm told). Handmade in Wales.
The second an ISA brown pomander hen, made in the UK.
Both have their heads tilted inquisitively to one side, as if to say "hello!" Together they make a right pair of herberts, full of character and very loveable.
Condition: They have no cracks or faults and are in great condition.
There are only ONE PAIR available to Re:love, as these were a welcome, but unique find. Are you willing to give them a new home?
Dimensions: At the highest point to the top of their heads they measure 8cm, and about 7cm to their tails, and being portly they're both about 7.5cm to 8cm wide and 8cm to 9cm in length.
Postage and packaging: Included in the price as first class by Royal Mail. Destinations within UK only.
What's a pomander? It's hard to see on the photos but both have small holes / perforations around the natural shape of their wings on each side. As pomanders, they would have started life filled with herbs or spices that filled the room with heavenly scents. If you wanted to refill them with the scent of your choice, you could, by removing or peeling back the label from the bottom. In the 70's pomanders were used in draws to make linens smell fresh and / or in kitchens to diffuse or fill the room with cooking smells - dependent on your preference.
No matter weather you're a hen lover or not, these are unique, quirky items that make a great treat of gift. They're full of character and expression.
